The brief was to redesign Southend Vox's website in their new branding to reflect the quality, vibrancy and personality of the Vox choirs. It needed to reflect that they are an amateur choir run to professional standards - but that didn't mean boring!
And it wasn't just about aesthetics.
After years of content updates from a number of different members, the website had lost cohesiveness and consistency. This harmed the user experience and made it harder for visitors to find the information that mattered.
A core part of the brief was to rebuild the structure, layout, templates and UI from scratch in a way that not only worked from Day 1, but was easily scalable and replicable for different members of the choir to update in future.
The scope of the website included a desktop and mobile version, showcasing performances through video and audio, events calendar and ticketing, spotlighting members and a contact form.
Imagery is an important part of bringing the choirs to life.
Each page has a striking hero image of the choirs in action, bringing to life the personality and energy of their performances.
However lighting, location and costume can vary greatly depending on the performance or event, sometimes not within the choirs' control. This can make it difficult to keep a consistent look and feel across imagery.
To overcome that, I overlaid each hero image with the full Vox gradient of colours. This not only created greater cohesion across the site, but created dramatic, vibrant and impactful imagery that brought the dynamism of the choirs to life and jumping off the screen.
