Southend Vox Rebrand

Vox, an award-winning family of choirs in Southend-on-Sea, commissioned me to design a complete rebrand of their two choirs: Southend Vox Community Choir and Vox Chamber.

The brief was to design branding that reflected the quality, vibrancy and personality of the Vox choirs. It needed to reflect that they are an amateur choir run to professional standards - but that didn't mean boring!

Colour was an important consideration. Vox wanted to link back to their heritage and retain the same hues of their primary colours (teal and orange and pink), but evolve the use of them so they could be used more flexibly and more secondary colours could be introduced, something they had felt limited by in the past.

Alongside the full rebrand, the project included redesigning the website, newsletters, banners, merchandise and team wear.

Full logo family including horizontal, vertical, roundel and favicon versions, as well as inverted background and black & variations.

"Mike is not only extremely talented and joy to work with, but his patience was endless and his knowledge incredibly vast. Where a full rebrand would normally be a daunting task, he made it exciting and relaxed from start to finish and brought our vision to life perfectly"
- Stef Topping, Vox Committee Chair.

"Mike did an incredible job with our rebrand. He took a customer-centric approach which always prioritised our goals and what was important to us, whilst suggesting fresh ideas that helped us take our brand to a new level. He was both incredibly patient and responsive, and has created a brand which is universally loved by our members and has captured our audiences. I would definitely recommend working with him for your branding needs!"
- Jo Human, Vox Chamber Musical Director

"Working with Mike has been a joy. He took time to really understand the brief and get under the skin of what we wanted. He really ‘got’ us and was meticulous in ensuring the final product is striking, flexible across multiple mediums and most importantly reflects the choir we are today."
- Katie McEwan, Southend Vox Musical Director
Alongside the Southend Vox Community Choir, I also designed complementary branding for the Vox Chamber Choir.

Key considerations for this part of the brief were to:
> Make the Chamber branding distinct yet clearly related to the Southend Vox branding
> Stand out from the crowd of 'traditional' looking chamber choirs - keep it elevated, but with a contemporary energy and personality.

I used a medium weight of Futura in the 'Chamber' element of the logo to create that elegant chamber aesthetic. Combined with the Vox gradient running in the opposite direction in pink to teal, this created the clear connection to Southend Vox, while offering sufficient distinction.
